Need To Lose Weight? Eat Less And Exercise More

Diets, and dieting aids, are a multibillion dollar industry in the United States. This should come as no surprise because many, many studies from both government and private researchers have documented the rapidly rising rates of obesity in almost all segments of the population. Many of these same studies point out that most diets would benefit greatly from the addition of fruits and vegetables for example in smoothies, on a regular basis.

The above details look like they’re at odds with each other. On one hand, we are considered passionate about exactly how much we weigh and are also happy to spend large amounts of funds on any kind of services or products that promises to assist us to eliminate our unwanted pounds. Yet, in contrast, you will find number of convincing research that, nationwide, we carry on growing more overweight.

I do think the disconnect in between the two is the fact while we frantically would like to weigh not as much as we do, we’re also not capable, or not willing, to make the lifestyle decisions required to not put on pounds to start with. As a culture, we apparently prefer to live a life of culinary abandon and eat all we want to and get to get a thinner body not having fuss or muss.

As circumstantial signs, I suggest a recent article in the New York Times. This great article is an review of the enduring use of the faddish Hcg weight loss inspite of any authentic facts that it works. The article author reports on one person who injects herself each day with HCG as an element of a 500 calorie daily diet.

Briefly, this is crazy in the extreme. Any reputable dietician will tell you that a middle aged female requires somewhere around 1,400 calories daily to maintain current weight and will begin to lose weight when calories are restricted to about 1,100 daily. For the woman outlined in the NY Times article, she doesn’t need HCG at all, at 500 calories a day, she’s starving herself already.

The answer to losing weight is not spending hundreds or thousands of dollars on questionable “miracle” programs. The answer is to stick with a reasonable and healthy diet and not ignore the nutritional needs your body has.

Put another way, our species has developed over tens of thousands of years and has survived more than a few challenges along the way. Our latest challenge, at least in the west, is that we do not get enough exercise and don’t eat at all correctly. That is, what we need for the body to function well.

Usually, we eat a lot of red meat, way too many carbohydrates, and a lot of sugar. We do not eat nearly enough fruits, vegetables, whole grain products, or fish. Rather than making our own meals, we all too often go to the nearest junk food vendor. Rather than working out, we lay on our couches and watch others play games.

And question why we put on weight!

Ultimately, you do not need any “wonder” cure, you should exercise more and consume less food. You won’t just be healthier, additionally, you will spend less.
